Our History

Our History

Serving the Outer Banks since 2007

Our company began as a surf school operating out of a local surf shop–and a trusty pickup truck–as our founder, Robert Farmer, shared his love of the ocean with locals and visitors alike.

Farmdog Surf School was incorporated in 2009, and in 2013, we moved into our first building, the historic Scarborough’s Garage in Nags Head’s Gallery Row district. We expanded our operations to include beach gear rentals and a coffee shop with a selection of healthy groceries, skincare, and Farmdog apparel for sale. And in a somewhat prescient decision, we also started offering Cabana and Umbrella Service on the beach in Nags Head

Fast forward to today and our new headquarters is located in the former Morales Art Gallery building where we operate Farmdog Beach Services.

As we watch our families and the Outer Banks area grow, we pride ourselves on delivering a convenient, safe, and fun experience to our customers through our high-quality beach setup services, which include commercial grade, custom made beach Cabana and Umbrella Services from South Nags Head all the way to Corolla on the Currituck Outer Banks.

"Don't be afraid to fail. Failure is just a stepping stone on the path to success. Embrace the challenges, learn from your mistakes, and keep pushing forward. Oh, and don't forget to laugh along the way. After all, laughter is the best medicine for those late-night stress-induced breakdowns."
Robert Farmer

Though our business has evolved over the years, our mission remains the same–to promote a healthy and active outdoor lifestyle and to share it with our loyal customers who love the Outer Banks as much as we do.
